Webjet is Australia’s number one online travel agent, covering flights, hotels, packages, car hire and travel insurance. Its emails have to sell the excitement of a trip, then help people manage the details once they’ve booked.
I designed a future-state email system for Webjet: a library of responsive modules and templates that brings destination inspiration and practical booking information into one framework.
The brief: a design system flexible enough to cover destination inspiration, flight and hotel offers, car hire, itineraries and customer service, so every message could be built from a common foundation.
My approach: I mapped the email experience against the traveller’s journey: discovering a destination, comparing options, booking and managing the trip. Each stage got modules with a clear role. Large destination imagery and photo mosaics create a sense of possibility, product cards organise comparable flights and hotels, and booking modules give practical details a direct, easy-to-scan layout. I then tested each module against changing content: a different destination, a longer itinerary, a narrower screen.
The result: a substantial library of desktop and mobile modules, from destination heroes and editorial features to flight offers, itinerary summaries, reviews and support messages. Complete example emails show how an inspiration email, an offer email and a booking email can all come from the same system.

01 Booking and servicePractical details, easy to scan.
Booking and trip emails that put flights, hotels, car hire and insurance in a clear, consistent order, so travellers can find what they need at a glance.
02 The module libraryA system mapped to the traveller’s journey.
Destination heroes, image mosaics, editorial features, flight and hotel cards, itinerary summaries, reviews and support modules, in single and multi-column layouts for desktop and mobile.
03 Complete emailsOne system, many kinds of email.
Inspiration emails give photography room to breathe, offer emails bring products and prices forward, and booking emails lead with what a traveller needs to act on.
Looking backOrganising a complex journey without losing the excitement of travel.
The impact: The system was designed for Australia’s number one online travel agent, a business that has spent 25 years helping Australians travel and compares fares across 148 airlines. It gives the team one framework for both promotional and lifecycle email.
What I took from it: Design for the person at each stage of the journey, not just the campaign. Thinking about the traveller browsing, the traveller comparing and the traveller about to fly made the module library far more useful, and it’s the same thinking I bring to any large system.
